Managing too much email? How to clean up your inbox now!
by Robin Lang, LAR Membership Services
Recently a member mentioned that she was changing her email address because she was getting too much junk. There is a solution for that, and it hopefully doesn’t mean creating a new email account!
Unroll.me, a free service, and similar paid services such as Sanebox and Mailstrom, are unsubscribe engines that go through your inbox and help you sort your email – much like sorting your snail mail, but even better. You can trash it for good, file it for later, or open it now. It is a way to control all of those wanted, and unwanted email subscriptions.
The trick is you need to be using google, yahoo, outlook, or aol email for Unroll.me. I use Hotmail (Outlook) for my home account and it works great.
The easiest way to get started is by using the computer based version of Unroll.me, but you can also download the free Unroll.me app for iOS. You have 3 options with each subscription: Rollup, Unsubscribe, Inbox.
Rollup – These messaged are consolidated and delivered together, in one convenient message. You can choose to receive that delivery in the morning, afternoon, or evening, and in a list or a grid view. I have 21 subscriptions in my rollup.
Unsubscribed – These are the subscriptions you have unsubscribed from. I have unsubscribed from 224!
Inbox – Messages go straight to your Inbox. I have 18 subscriptions that go straight to my Inbox.
You can probably get all this done on a big email account in 30 minutes or less! Next up, I will talk about alternative email apps for your smart phone, to further help you organize all that email.
